Indian delegation visits Felani spot

KURIGRAM: An Indian delegation on Tuesday visited the Felani killing spot on Phulbari frontier of the district.

The delegation, sent by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) special trial court, came through Indian area of Chowdhury Haat.

They, however, visited the surrounding places of international border pillar 947 where Felani Khatun was shot dead by BSF members while she was crossing the barbed-wire fences on January 7, 2011.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion 45 in Kurigram commanding officer (CO) lieutenant colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akand said that the revision trial of Felani killing began earlier on Monday at a special court in India’s Cooch Behar district.

The 15-year-old girl, Felani, who was returning home from India along with her father on the occasion of her marriage, was shot dead by the BSF men.

However, her father managed to come inside Bangladesh by scaling up the barbed-wire fence, but the girl could not cross it.

Later, the BSF men handed over Felani’s body on January 8 following a huge global outcry.

After an investigation, the BSF submitted the charge-sheet against its constable Amiya Ghosh who shot the girl.

On August 19, 2013, the special court constituted by the BSF had acquitted Amiya Ghosh from the charge.

Nevertheless, in the wake of widespread criticism, BSF decided to revise the murder trial.
