Medical teams to test animals

DHAKA: Medical teams will be set up from Thursday to examine health of the sacrificial animals at all the cattle markets across the country including the city on the occasion of upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Sources said the teams will find out the presence steroid (one kind of hormone group medicine) such as Dexamithason, Cortisol, Bitamithason, Hydrocortison as well as Ciproheptadine and Urea, Oradex, Cortan, Adam-33, Piredanisolon, Decason and etc which are used to fatten the animals.

These medicines are harmful for human health.

In this regard, fisheries and livestock ministry joint secretary Mohammad Ali Nur said, “Department of livestock will monitor the teams.”

They would be working at every cattle market and other necessary places, including 12 entrances in city, he added.

He further said that local livestock officers would also examine the health condition of the sacrificial animals at upazila level.
