Shanties evicted at Karwan Bazar

DHAKA: The railway authorities Friday started evicting illegal shanties and shops along Karwanbazar rail tracks, a day after trains killed 4 running over a crowd there.

Railway (Dhaka division) assistant officer Nurunnabi Kabir told banglanews, illegal establishment on the both sides of the rail lines will be removed during this drive.

The officer, however, could not give any accurate figures about how many establishments are there.

Railway Thana Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam said, we do not know that on how many areas have been occupied on the both sides of rail tracks; but all illegal set ups will be removed from the both sides.

Asked why people repeatedly took positions though they were thrown away, he said we conducted eviction operations regularly and it is not our duty to oversee who set shops there.
