UNGA: BD civil society hosts side events

DHAKA: Eminence Associates for Social Development and the Global Citizens’ Forum on Sustainable Development will host two side events to take place in New York, USA during the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly and Climate Summit 2014, convened by the Secretary-General.

The first side event will serve to identify progress toward and remaining activities needed to assure that the health needs of urban populations can be met in the Sustainable Development Goals and post-2015 development framework, a press release said on Thursday night.

Proposed panelists include leaders in the Urban Health, Development Health, and Sustainable Development networks.

The event is hosted in partnership with the International Society on Urban Health, the organizing committee of the International Conference of Urban Health 2015, and the New York Academy of Medicine.

The event will take place on September 20, 2014, 10:00am, at the New York Academy of Medicine.

On the other hand, the second side event will generate discussion on the role of civil society in monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals in the post-2015 era.

The panel will include an international dais of civil society leaders, UN representatives, and representatives from the Government of Bangladesh.

Renowned economist and Chairman for the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad will graciously attend as chairman of this event.

The event will take place on September 23, 2014, 4:00pm, at the New York Academy of Medicine.
