CHITTAGONG: Customs officials here recovered 14 gold bars weighing 1.7 kilogrammes from shoes of two passengers returned from Oman at Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday night.

Sources told banglanews that the two passengers, who earlier landed by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 11:00pm, have already been handed over to police.

The detainees, however, were identified as Mohammad Sobuj, hailed from comilla and Golam Morshed, living in Raozan of Chittagong.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Othello Chowdhury, an assistant commissioner of the Airport Customs, said that the gold bars were recovered from the two passengers shoes.

The recovered gold bars worth Tk 70 lakh were found in abandoned condition, he added.

“Cases will be filed against the two passengers according to customs law,” he said adding they are now in primary interrogation.
