DHAKA: Three officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, including its commissioner Benazir Ahmed, appeared before the High Court on Wednesday morning.

The other two are DMP deputy commissioner (Lalbagh Zone) and DMP’s Lalbagh Thana officer-in-charge. They are now staying at the office of the attorney general.

On September 1, a high court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Izarul Haque summoned the DMP officials to appear before the court in person in a court order on renovation of boundary wall at Azimpur graveyard in the city.

The court passed the orders on ground of contempt of court.

Earlier, Dhaka South City Corporation constructed road breaking the wall beside the graveyard. Later, one Zakir Hossain filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the road construction.

Then the HC ordered to renovate the wall. As the wall was not renovated, the plaintiff sought for contempt of court order against the people concerned. Later, the HC ordered the commissioner to supply the sufficient manpower to rebuild the wall.

As the commissioner failed, the HC, on September 1, summoned him and the others concerned.
