KOLKATA: India’s West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condoled on legendary Bangladeshi singer Firoza Begum's death.

Sources told banglanews that she, just after getting the news, expressed her deep condolence to Abida Islam, Bangladesh deputy-high commissioner to Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee said that Firoza Begum's death will certainly create a huge emptiness in the world of music and culture.

“Her renditions in music are truly unforgettable. She was like a bond that bridged the cultural world of Bangladesh and West Bengal,” the West Bengal Chief Minister added.

She, at that time also expressed her sympathy for bereaved family member of Firoza Begum.

Moreover, Mamata Banerjee also posted a status from her official facebook page on the night where she reminisced about the last time the two had talked on the phone.

She said there that her government was planning to honour Firoza Begum with the State's highest civilian award, 'Banga Bibhusan' in their first 'Agomoni' programme scheduled on 22nd September this year.

“I am very sad to learn that the legendary singer Firoza Begum has just breathed her last,” she said on facebook.

Mentioning ‘Firoza di, wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts,’ Mamata Banerjee said there that the two had talked on the phone hardly about 10 days back.

“I remember, on the last occasion of our meeting, she was in tears while leaving and told me 'ar ki dekha hobe?' -- Today, these words keep ringing in my ears,” she added.
