MUNSHIGANJ: Passenger ferry Pinak-6 owner Abu Bakar Siddique Kalu was sent to jail on Thursday.

Munshiganj Judicial Magistrate Harun-ur-Rashid passed the ordered in the noon.

The court also fixed Monday for hearing of the remand in response to Lauhajang Police’s demand of a 7-day remand.

Officer-in-Charge M Tofazzal Hossain of the Police Station said they demanded the remand for the sack of investigation.

Court sources said the hearing has been deferred to Monday as the documents did not reach in hands.

Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) handed over the launch owner to police Wednesday evening.

Abu Bakar was arrested from an apartment in Agrabad Housing Society in Chittagong port city around 3:30am on Wednesday.

On July 4, with over 200 passengers Pinak-6 capsized near Mawa Ghat in Lauhajang upazila of the district.

Till August 12, the death toll rose to 48, in which 28 bodies were handed over to their family and unidentified 17 were buried.

BIWTA accused six people, including the launch owner, its sareng and helmsman for causing death by negligence.
