PM shocked at death of China earthquake

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her profound shock to learn about the catastrophic 6.1 magnitude earthquake that hit the Ludian Country in Yunnan province on August 3.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the catastrophic 6.1 magnitude earthquake that hit the Ludian Country in Yunnan province on August 3,” she said. 

The premier expressed her in a letter to Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council People’s Republic of China on Tuesday. 

The earthquake caused death to 380 people and injury to more that 2000 others so far and destroyed more than 12,000 houses, she said in the letter.  

Shaikh Hasina also expressed sympathy to know about the large number of fatalities and injuries caused by an automobile parts factory in Kunshan city of the East China’s Jiangsu province on August 2.

The ruling Awami League president also said, “On behalf of the people and government of Bangladesh the premier conveyed her deepest condolences to the families who lost their beloved ones and profound sympathy to the families whose near and dear ones got injured.”

She added: “We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family members and hope that they find strength in overcoming the irreparable losses with forbearance and fortitude.”
