DHAKA: The custom officials detained two people along with 270 pieces of gold bars and six pieces of gold chains from Hazarat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

The detainees are identified as Mohammad Ali and Sharif.

Joint Commissioner of airport customs division Ziauddin Ahmed informed banglanews that, on tip-off, they conducted a drive in BG-089A plane which came from Bangkok around 3:00pm.

After searching the craft, the officials recovered the gold bars weighting 31.5kgs and gold chains wrapped with a piece of black cloth under their seats, and later, detained the duo.

The detainees confessed their involvement in smuggling gold after initial interrogation.
