DHAKA: The first prey of the retractable spikes, set up on May 23 as an experiment on the VIP roads of the city in a bid to reduce road accidents, was a cabinet member.

A cabinet member, without disclosing the name of the prey, confirmed the matter to banglanews on Monday.

Indicating all the cabinet members, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said law enforcers set up the device for the safety of them.

During the time, the premier also praised the initiative taken by the administration.

Many drivers use to drive on the wrong-way which causes rampant traffic jam on the city roads.

On May 23, DMP Traffic Division (South) installed retractable spikes in three spots in the city.

At the primary stage, the devices have been installed on the roads, stretching from Rupshi Bangla Hotel to Kakrail mosque– opposite to Arunodaya Gate–, near government guest house Sugondha and in front of Jamuna, now Foreign Service Academy.

Hassan Mahmud Khandaker, Inspector General of Police, inaugurated the devices.
