Lightning kills 6, hurts 29

NAOGAON: At least six people were killed and 29 others injured when thunderbolt struck them at a local paddy market in Saraswatipur under Mohadevpur upazila of the district on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Azizar Rahman, 40, of Shajadpur village of Sadar upazila of the district, Shamsul Alam, 35, of Uttargram and Yakub Ali, 22, son of late Ismail Hossain of  Gasra village, Afzal Hossain, 44, son Mahid Ali of Vimpur village, Josinuddin, 40, son of Saheb Ali of Bandail village and Hafizur Rhaman, 42, of Chumachia village of Mohadebpur upazila..

Local sources said thunderbolt struck the victims at a village   haat at 8:00am, causing the causalities. 

Meanwhile, the injured were admitted at the Upazila Health Complex and the district Sadar Hospital.

One of the injured, one succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

Mohadevpur Thana Officer-In-Charge Ruhul Amin told banglanews, “Two of the injured are in critical condition, they were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.” 

Heavy rain has been pouring at different parts of the district for last 24 hours.
