Myanmar Ambassador summoned

DHAKA: The Ambassador of Myanmar to Dhaka was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday afternoon and was handed over a note verbal strongly protesting the firing and detaining a member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) patrolling team by Myanmar Border Guard Police along the Bangladesh-Myanmar international border.

While meeting with the Secretary (Bilateral) Ambassador Mustafa Kamal, Bangladesh also demanded immediate release of the captive member of BGB Nayek M Mizanur Rahman.

Bangladesh has also demanded for a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent the recurrence of such incident in future.

The Myanmar ambassador assured that the matter would be duly conveyed to the concerned authorities in Myanmar immediately and that he would revert back to Bangladesh side as soon as he hears from them.

It may be mentioned that Nayek M Mizanur Rahman of BGB remains missing as of now following an indiscriminate firing by the Myanmar Border Guard Police since yesterday morning.

Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar has also lodged a strong protest with the Myanmar Foreign Ministry demanding an immediate investigation into the matter and release of the captive BGB member.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the situation.
