2 arrested in Sylhet rape case

SYLHET: Law enforcers arrested two accused on Tuesday in a rape case of two sisters at Charthai village under Beanibazar upazila of the district.

The arrestees are Selim Ahmed, son of Sundar Ali, residing in Baradesh village under Kanaighat upazuila of the district and Nazrul Islam, son of Makhdum Ali, resident of Jalalnagar village of Charthai union.

Police said the law enforcers detained the accused between Monday night and early on Tuesday from Beanibazar and Kanaighat area.

Selim was the prime accused in the case filed by the victims’ father.

The arrested persons are likely to be produced to the court later in the day, police sources said.

On Sunday night, a gang of miscreants raped two sisters after forcefully entering their house at Charkhai Union, tying up their parents.

Local sources said that both of the sisters passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Exam with GPA-5 this year.

Earlier on Monday, the victims’ father filed a case with Beanibazar Police Station accusing five people in this connection.

Beanibazar Thana Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to banglanews.
