DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced Boma Mizan of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh for 20 years imprisonment and his wife Halima Begum for five years imprisonment in a case filed under the Explosive Act.

Additional Metropolitan Session Judge of Dhaka-4 AHM Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan delivered the verdict.

Halima was on the dock while Mizan was absent during the delivery of the verdict and he has been fugitive since the stanching of three militants of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh on February 23.

According the case statement, acting on a tip-off, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) nabbed the couple from a rented flat in city’s Mirpur area on May 15, 2009 with larger number of grenades, arms, and bullets, and huge amount of bomb making substances.

Following the detention, RAB deputy assistant director filed a case under the Act. Police submitted the charge-sheet on June 15, 2009.

On June 30, 2012, a court awarded the couple 37 years in jail in another case. Before that, another court also gave them 36 years imprisonment in two other cases.

A total of 14 different cases are under trial against them
