Husband, brother-in-law to die in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: A Satkhira court on Sunday awarded death penalty to a man and his younger brother for killing his wife in Sadar upazila of the district.

The convicts are Sohrab Hossain and Saheb Sardar, sons of Mawla Sardar of Haraddah village of the upazila.

Judge of Satkhira women and children repression prevention tribunal Shahenur Rahman handed down the verdict in the noon.

The court also acquitted three accused in the case.

Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Advocate Farida Akther Banu Ray confirmed the matter to banglanews.

According to the case statement Afroza got married to Sohrab seven years ago; her husband had been demanding dowry of Tk 50,000 since then.

He was given Tk 30,000, but Sohrab and his family members beat and strangled the woman to death on January 31, 2005.

Following the killing, victim’s brother Nazim Uddin filed a murder case with Sadar Thana accusing Sohrab, his parents Rokeya Khatun and Mawla Sardar, his brother Saheb Ali.

Later, police submitted the charge-sheet against the accused.
