Govt to build wire fence in Myanmar frontier

DHAKA: The government is going to take decision in building barbed wire fences along Myanmar border for stopping infiltration of Rohingyas.

It also is going to increase the number of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members to patrol in the frontier area strictly.

Sources said the decision would come after the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) meeting on July 8-10.

Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner M Ruhul Amin has made some specific proposals to the government to stop Rohingya infiltration and smuggling.

The proposal said the number of registered Rohingyas in two camps of the district is 25,045 but the number of trespassers is more than two lakhs who are being involved in various illegal activities, including smuggling and drugs business.

The government is going take some steps including building watch towers, carpeted road along the boundary, constructing barbed wire fences, to fight the situation after the proposals by the DC, sources added.
