BGP fire again on Bandarban border

BANDARBAN: A tense situation is prevailing at Naikkhangchari frontier of the district as Myanmar border Guard Police (BGP) once again fired mortar shell on Tuesday night.

BGP fired at Jamchhari and Prottajhiri border line under Naikkhangchari upazila around 10:30pm.

Local union parishad member M Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, Naikkhangchari BGB-31 Battalion Commander Shafiqul Islam denied the matter but saying additional BGB personnel were deployed in the border area to tackle any attack by the Myanmar border police.

Earlier on Friday, BGP traded fire with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Naikkhangchari border as BGB Nayek Mizanur Rahman, was shot dead by Myanmar border troops in Naikhangchhari-Myanmar border area of Bandarban on May 28.

After two days, Myanmar handed over the body of Nyek Subedar Mizanur Rahman to BGB.

Following the tense situation along the border, Sector Commander level meeting is scheduled to be held at Mongdu of Myanmar on Thursday (June 5) and director general level meeting at Naypyidaw of Myanmar on June 9-10.
