CHITTAGONG: Two workers were burnt to death as a devastating fire broke out in a sock factory in Shitol Jharna residential area under Bayezid Bostami Thana of the port city early Friday.

The deceased were identified as Rony, 32 and Iftekhar 35; residents of the area.

Fire Service and Civil Defense sources told banglanews that the fire originated from an electric short circuit around 4:00am in the factory.

On information, two units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire with the help of factory workers.

The Fire fighters rescued Rony and Iftekhar in roughly charred condition.

They were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries around 09:00am.

Initially the extent of loss from the fire has been estimated at more than 3-lac.

Fire Service and Civil Defense control room operator Biswantor Barua confirmed the matter to banglanews.
