DHAKA: Assailants killed a pathway trader in front of the western gate of Baitulmakarram in the city in broad daylight Monday, two days after an arbitration meet for realizing his money from a borrower.

The deceased, Humayun Kabir, 40, from Kutubkhali Nayanagar under Jatrabari Thana used to sell kids’ bicycle on the roadside beside the market.

Witnesses said Jakir, Chunnu, Dudu and Al Amin along with 5-6 goons went to Humayun’s shop and exchanged hot words with him at 4pm.

“At one stage of the altercation, the miscreants beat him mercilessly and left him senseless,” says an eyewitness account of the lynching.

His son Sharif and local traders sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

His widowed wife Ranu Kabir told banglanews.24.com.bd that Jakir and Chunnu borrowed Tk 160,000 and 200,000 from her husband. But they could not return the money.

She also said last Saturday Hawkers Market Committee called a meeting in this regard and the committee gave a decision for return of the money within one week.

She apprehends that the “miscreants” may also kill her.

Ranu tried to express her grievances to State Minister for home Shamsul Haque Tuku while he visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 4:30pm to see injured policemen. “But security personnel stopped and pushed me,” she said.
