Kuwait reopens door for Bangladeshis

KWUAIT CITY: The Kuwait, the richest among the Arab states, has again opened its labor market for the Bangladeshis after a halt of long seven years.

The labor market is again opened for the Bangladeshis following tireless initiatives of Bangladesh Embassy there.

The Oil rich Kuwait is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. One Kuwait Dinar is equivalent to Bangladeshi Taka 280.00 which is much more than any other currency.

There is a monarchy system of government. Meetings, procession, rally and blockades are forbidden in this country. It requires the permission of the law enforcers for holding any type of function.

In 2006, the labor market for the Bangladeshis were closed over alleged involvement of the Bangladeshis with many crimes, blockades, attack on the embassy and for illegal entry in the country.

After that there had been long negotiations with the Kuwait government for opening the market.

On September 24 of 2013, present ambassador Major General Mohammad Ashabuddin, (NDC, PSC) joined here as the chief of the embassy. A new phase of negotiations started with the arrival of new embassy chief and other officials even with the Amir of the country.

The new phase of negotiations brought results through opening of the market. Meanwhile, more than one hundred Bangladeshi labors have been appointed in an agricultural company.  Process has also been completed for more appointments in many other companies.

The embassy is very much vigilant about the ill practice of visa trading and several measures have been taken to check it, a source of the embassy informed Banglanews.

Bangladeshi community in Kuwait has accorded thanks to the new ambassador for opening the labor market as well as the motivational work for the country’s labor to reduce the criminal activities.

According to the embassy sources, it has introduced awareness program for the Bangladeshis, introduction of ‘help line’ to disseminate necessary information, distribution of leaflets for the expatriates traveling in air services.

Another program includes on every Wednesday of the second week the arrangement of giving hearing to the problems of the Bangladeshi expatriates at embassy office from 12 noon to 1 noon and giving on the spot solutions. The program has been continuing for last six months.

The embassy has also started health awareness program for the expatriates conducted by the physicians working there. The embassy has also arranged publication of quarterly ‘news letter’ and from April 18 program in Bangla language has also started broadcasting on Kuwait radio.
