President, PM mourn Musa’s death

DHAKA: President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and many others expressed their profound shock at the death of veteran journalist ABM Musa.

Journalist Musa, 83, breathed his last at Labaid Hospital in city around 1:45pm on Wednesday.

He had been kept on life-support from Monday night and had been suffering from severe blood-cell related disease Myelo-dysplastic syndrome.

The president, in a message of condolence, said Musa’s death was an irreparable loss to the country`s press and media.

He termed the veteran journalist a glittering star in the arena of the country`s journalism.

The premiere, in a separate message, said ABM Musa was a witness of many historic events in his long lifetime and would be remembered in the field of journalism in the days to come.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mian and Opposition Leader Rowshan Ershad also expressed their profound shock in the death.

BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Samyabadi Dal general secretary and also former Industries Minister Dilip Barua, Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, East West Media Group Limited chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, among others, mourned the death of Musa.

Different social, cultural and journalists’ organizations including Bangla Academy, National Press Club, Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh, Chittagong press club, Chittagong Union of Journalists, Chittagong Photo Journalist Association, Dhaka University Journalists` Association, Jahangirnagar University Journalists` Association, Gansanghati Andolan, Bangladesh Muslim League and Udichi Shilpigoshthi also expressed their condolence.
