RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi court on Wednesday dismissed a Tk 10 crore defamation case against Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) president Hafizur Rahman Khan, its secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumder and two others.

Judge Abdul Matin of Rajshahi Cognizance Court-2 passed the order in the noon.

On March 30, Advocate Salauddin Biswas, a defeated chairman candidate in upazila election in Godagari, filed the case.

Sujan president, secretary and its Rajshahi region coordinator Subrata Paul and field worker Sanjida Haque Bipasha were made accused in the case.

Later, the court took the case to cognizance and fixed April 9 to deliver the verdict after hearing.

According to the case statement, Sujan distributed leaflets with the candidates’ information ahead of the upazila polls for March 15 at the upazila mentioning that Salauddin, the complainant, withdrew his candidacy and which was totally false.

Sujan did not care the matter after repeated requests to stop leaflets distribution. Consequently Salahuddin lost the election causing a financial loss of Tk 10 crore to him, according to the statement.
