BAGERHAT: A Bagerhat court on Wednesday awarded death penalty to three activists of Purba Bangla Communist Party (ML Jonojuddha) and life-term imprisonment to another one in a murder case.

District and Session Judge SM Solaiman passed the order at noon.

The convicts are Shahid Sheikh, son of one Mannan Sheikh and Yasin Ali, son of one Jamal, resident of Kumarkhali under Mongla upazila of the district and Yasin Hawladar, hailed from Kumlai village of Rampal upazila.

The life-timer is Masum Gazi alias Maksud, hailed from Kumarkhali village.

Court sources told banglanews that the convicts slaughtered their fellow Mizan on June 7, 2005 following an internal dispute over extortion money.

Mizan’s brother Sayeed Sarder filed a case in this connection against the convicts.

After a long investigation, CID Inspector M Afsar Uddin Gazi submitted charge sheet in the case on November 29, 2006.

Of the convicts, two were present in the court while Judge passed the verdict.
