DHAKA: The first Namaz-e-Janaza of the Parliament Member Shawkat Hossain Hiron, also former Mayor of Barisal City Corporation, held at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday afternoon.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak confirmed the matter to banglanews.
HM Ershad, special envoy to the Prime Minister, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Health Minister Mohammed Nasim, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar ALam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Jatiya Party secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader, BNP’s central leader Moazzem Hossain Alal, former president of FBCCI Anisul Haque, among others, were present in the Janaza.
Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury paid tribute to the demise leader placing floral wreaths to his coffin.
Nanak said, after the first Janaza, the body of Hiron would be kept at mortuary of the hospital.
Later, on Thursday the body will be taken to Barisal by helicopter and after Jumma prayer he will be buried on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Awami League lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron breathed his last at 7:45am in capital’s Apollo Hospitals.
He suffered a stroke on March 22 at Barisal Club. Since then he was kept on life support.
He was first rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Apollo Hospitals when his condition deteriorated.
Hiron was later flown to Singapore on March 24 by an air ambulance for better treatment.
He was brought back to Dhaka on April 3 as his condition did not improve. He was admitted again to the Apollo Hospitals here on that night.
