FROM LABAID: “He is in very critical condition”, said Dr Baren Chakraborty, senior consultant of LabAid Hospital, who is supervising the medical team formed for treating veteran journalist ABM Musa, 83.

ABM Musa has been kept on life-support at LabAid Hospital from Monday night.

He is suffering from severe blood-cell related disease, Myelo-dysplastic syndrome.

On March 29, he was admitted to hospital for the first time. Then he was taken to incentive care unit several times.

Dr Baren Chakrabarti has been treating Musa for the last 10-year.

He said, “His condition is alarming … but we are trying our best. Hopefully he will recover.”

“He was also given life-support two years ago but we were successful then. This time the situation is more critical,” he added.

He has been suffering from Myelodysplastic Syndrome, hematological (blood-related) medical condition with ineffective production (or dysplasia) of the myeloid class of blood cells, which is like blood cancer.

Consultant Habibur Rahman has been looking after him at the CCU of Lab Aid.

“His heart is pumping only 20-30 percent blood which is alarming. It would have been less alarming if his heart pumped 60 percent,” he added.

His kidney is partially damaged and lungs are infected,” Habib added.

“Earlier, he had a bypass operation at this heart and there was a pace maker,” Habibur also said.
