CERN DG conferred Doctor of Science

DHAKA: Professor Rolf Heuer, Director General of European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), was conferred Doctor of Science degree by Dhaka University.

President M Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, handed over the degree to him in the 48th convocation of the varsity at its Central Playground on Monday.

With President Abdul Hamid in the chair, Professor Rolf Heuer, Director General of European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), delivered his speech as Convocation Speaker.

New graduates, faculty members and several members of alumni also took part in the convocation.

For the sake of security of all participants were asked not to bring mobile phones, cameras and hand bags at the convocation venue.

The graduates who attained degrees till March in 2014 took part in the convocation.

The chancellor of the varsity conferred degrees among 38 PhD researchers, 25 Mphil researchers and 34 MD-MS holders at the convocation.

A total of 33 students received gold medals for their outstanding results.

A total of 8,312 students--4,015 male and 4,297 female--attained their graduation certificates in the convocation.

Cabinet members, MPs and diplomats, among others, attended the convocation.
