28 Kg gold jewelries seized

COX’S BAZAR: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in a drive, seized 27.76 kilogram of mortgaged gold jewelries in Chakaria upazila of the district on Sunday midnight.

BGB-16 and police jointly conducted the drive in presence of a magistrate in a house of businessman at 12:00am and held three people with the huge gold ornaments.

The detainees are gold businessman Nondaram Dhaor, his two sons Polash Dhar and Sumon Dhar.

BGB-17 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Saiful Islam said they seized more than TK 11.49 lakhs and huge gold jewelries in sacks.   

Chakaria thana officer-in-charge Mohammad Farhad told banglanews that a case is being field under section of gold smuggling.

Parul Bala Dhar, wife of Nandaram Dhar, alleged that her husband is a licensed mortgage businessman. Villagers are the actual owners of the seized gold, which they mortgaged in exchange of money.

Besides, customs officers held a man with 53 gold bars at Chittagong airport on Monday morning.
