Two men riding a motorcycle were killed after being struck by an intercity train in Nilphamari on Wednesday (June 25) morning, police said.
The accident took place at the Gyanadas Kanaikata level crossing in the Palashbari area of Nilphamari Sadar around 8am, according to officials.
The victims were identified as Santos, 48, son of Kalthu Mamud, and Bhabes, 28, son of Sheltu—both residents of Araji Dalua in the Chaora Baragachha area of Nilphamari Sadar.
Mahmud-un Nabi, officer-in-charge of Syedpur Railway Police Station, said the Chilahati-bound intercity train struck the motorcycle while it was crossing the tracks.
"The train dragged the vehicle for about one kilometre. Both riders died instantly," he said, citing local accounts.
Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident, and the bodies will be handed over to the families following legal formalities, the official added.
