Offices to reopen Sunday after 10-day Eid holiday

All government and private offices, banks, and factories are set to reopen on Sunday (June 15) as the country’s 10-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday comes to an end.

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious festivals for Muslims, was celebrated nationwide on June 7. The extended holiday began on June 5 and continued through June 14.

Most holidaymakers have already returned to the capital, with a significant influx seen on Saturday.

On Friday, a huge rush of Dhaka-bound passengers was observed at major transportation hubs, including train stations, bus terminals, and launch ghats.

Despite the heavy rush, return journeys remained relatively smooth, with no major traffic congestion reported on key highways.

In Dhaka, long-haul trains arriving at Kamalapur Railway Station were packed with passengers from various districts. A few outbound passengers were also seen leaving the capital.

Meanwhile, a noticeable number of people were observed wearing masks in line with government health advisories amid growing concerns over a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases linked to a new variant of the virus.

Authorities expect a full resumption of official activities on Sunday.
