DHAKA:  A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Anis Uddin Bhuiyan, engineer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, held with 106-kilogram gold from Shahjalal International Airport, on a five-day remand for police interrogation.

Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashikur Rahman passed the order after hearing when police produced him with a 10-day remand plea.

On Saturday, a total of 106-kilogram gold bars were seized from a flight of Bangladesh Biman from Dubai at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Customs intelligence of the airport held an engineer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in this connection.

Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Senior ASP Alamgir Hossain Shimul said APBn detained engineer Anisur Rahman of Bangladesh Biman suspecting for his involvement in the smuggling.

Later, from his mobile message APBn was informed about the gold bars, which later seized from a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines coming from Dubai in the noon.

Customs intelligence deputy director Mostafizur Rahman said, “Acting on a tip-off, custom intelligence and APBn seized the huge amount of gold bars from toilet of the Biman wrapping up with cloths.”
