The Election Commission (EC) will examine the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding BNP leader Ishraque Hossain before making any decision about his status as the elected mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal made the comment while speaking to reporters on Thursday (May 29) at the Election Commission office in Agargaon.
“We have not yet received the copy of the verdict. Once we get it, we will review the legal aspects and take steps as required,” the CEC said.
Earlier, on May 22, the High Court bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury rejected the writ petition filed against Ishraque Hossain.
Following the order, Ishraque’s lawyer said there was no legal bar to his oath-taking as DSCC mayor.
