3 cops among 4 hurt in Teknaf gunfight

COX’S BAZAR: Three policemen and a Yaba trader were injured in a gunfight at Naf River dam area in Alikhali union under Tenkanf Upazila of the district at 11:00pm Wednesday.

The injured were identified as assistant sub-inspector Joynal, constables Jasim Uddin and Mahammudul Haque of Teknaf Thana and Sayed Nur, 24, a Yaba trader, son of late Sultan Ahmed of Leda area of Hilla union of the upazila.

Teknaf Tahana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Ranjit Kumar Barua told banglanews, “Being informed, a police team, led by the OC, took position in the area.”

“Anchoring a boat there, a group of Yaba 5/6traders were going to the nearby field; at that time, police intercepted them, at one stage they began firing at lawmen, police retaliated with gunshots, leaving the three cops injured,” he added.

The Yaba traders fled the scene after the gunfight, later police nabbed Nur, who sustained bullet-injures on the knee, and recovered 2,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, a gun and 2 rounds of cartridge from the spot.

Injured lawmen were admitted at the Upazila Health Complex and Nur at the district Sadar Hospital.

Nur is a listed Yaba trader with Teknaf Thana, said the OC.

A case was filed in this connection.
