Adviser on Water Resources and Environment Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Friday (May 23) said the government did not assumed responsibility just to hold the national election, rather it has three major duties—reform, justice, and election.

“We did not take the responsibility only to conduct the election. We have two other tasks too. But we are failing to carry those out,” she told reporters after the 24th National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Zoological Society of Bangladesh at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University.

She said the government is facing difficulties in performing its duties as various groups are blocking roads to press their demands, paralyzing normal movement.

On the election timeline, the adviser made it clear that the polls must be held between December this year and June next year. “There is no room for extending the timeframe by even a single day. This timeline has been clearly set by the Chief Adviser,” she said.

The election deadline is fixed, and if the Chief Adviser has anything further to say, it should come directly from him,” she said.
