DHAKA: A journalist couple was not only assaulted by Ansar men in the capital, but two Ansar members had also loaded their rifle and targeted at them.

As crowd rushed to the spot, the Ansar men fired a shot, fortunately hitting none.

But, Sajeda Sweety, a Staff Correspondent of online news portal banglanews24.com, and her husband Tauhid Shanta, a journalist of Asian Television, had to take treatment from Dhaka Medical College Hospital as the Ansar men beat them and then hit them by rifle`s but on Thursday night.

“We got the complaint and immediate steps will be taken,” Mohammadpur Thana Officer-in-Charge Azizul Haque told banglanews as he was asked about police action following the incident.

According to the injured journalists, Sweety was returning from office along with her husband by a motorbike at around 10:30pm. They had a stopover in front of Palli Karma Sahayak.

But, some Ansar men of the area started teasing Sajeda Sweety and locked into an altercation with Tauhid Shanta.

Later, taking them into nearby Ansar camp the Ansar men Shukkur and Ramjan started beating the journalist couple. They also threatened to kill Sweety and Shanta and loaded a rifle.

At one stage, locals came to the spot and rescued them from the Ansar men.

But, the Ansar men tried to stage a drama by saying that an incident of arms looting took place. They themselves went into rampage to show that the crowd did it.

Meanwhile, a traffic sergeant Sanwar and some personnel from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 also rushed to the spot and bring the situation under control.

Later, the injured journalists were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) general secretary Abu Saleh Akan condemned the attack and demanded immediate punishment to the Ansar men, responsible for the attack on journalists.
