DHAKA: The High Court on Monday directed home secretary and inspector general of police (IGP) to handover the case over Sonali Bank robbery in Kishoreganj to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) within 48-hour.

An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order after hearing on a writ petition filed for public interest.

Besides, the court also issued a rule asking ‘to investigate whether there was any militants’ connection in the robbery and “why it should not be given order to take the prime movers under legal process”.

Advocate Monjil Morshed filed the writ petition with the court.

On January 25, some Tk 16.40 crore was looted from the main branch of Sonali Bank in Kishoreganj district.

RAB nabbed the prime accused of the robbery Habib and recovered five sacks of money from his possessions.
