DHAKA: Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia, MP were elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th Parliament respectively on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) at a meeting nominated Dr Shirin Sharmin, who was elected Member of Parliament from Rangpur-6 constituency, for the post of Speaker, while Fazle Rabbi for the post of Deputy Speaker.
On April 30, 2013, Dr Shirin Sharmin became the country’s first female Speaker after then Speaker Abdul Hamid became Bangladesh’s 20th President on April 30.
