CHITTAGONG: At least 56 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Bibir Bazar in Municipal Sadar area under Fatikchhari Upazila in the district on Tuesday morning.

Local sources said that the fire originated from an electric short circuit of the market at around 7:00am and soon spread out to adjacent area.

On information, two vehicles from Hathazari fire service station rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after four hour frantic efforts.

Confirming the matter, Hathazari Fire Service Station Officer Jahirul Islam told banglanews, “The fire damaged assets worth about Tk50 Lakhs.”
