Dhaka University fine arts faculty today (April 14) brought out the traditional Mangal Shobhajatra, a colourful procession, to mark Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year 1431.

The procession was brought out with the slogan ‘Amra To Timir Binashi’.

This year’s procession featured five structures depicting a child, a pangolin, a decorative elephant, a decorative wheel and a bird.

The procession was cordoned off by heavy security of the law enforcement agencies.

A large number of participants of the procession were holding handheld colourful masks depicting tiger, owl, elephant, fish and others.

The Mangal Shobhajatra started from the Fine Arts Faculty of DU at 9:15 am. It was led by Vice-Chancellor of the Dhaka University Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal.

The procession moved towards Shahbag intersection, took a u-turn beside the Dhaka Club, and ended in front of the Teacher-Student Centre on DU campus.

Social Welfare Minister Dipu Moni, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam and DMP Commissioner participated in it. Apart from this, university teachers, students and people from all walks of life participated in the procession.
