Newspapers won’t be published during Eid holidays

Newspapers will not be published for six days during holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, and Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year.

The Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) on Saturday announced the holidays which will start on 9 April and continue until 14 April.

In general, holidays begin in newspapers’ offices from 29 Ramadan and journalists enjoy three-day holidays. It turns into four days in the case of the full Ramadan month (30 days).

This year, 29 Ramadan falls on 9 April and the holidays will continue until 12 April on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the NOAB said in a meeting.

The association also decided to declare a special holiday on 13 April, a day before Pahela Baishakh, which falls on 14 April.
