3 more Myanmar army personnel take refuge in Bangladesh

Three more Myanmar forces, including a member of the army and two personnel of the Border Guard Police (BGP), have fled and taken refuge in Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict between the ruling junta and the armed rebel group along the international border.

They entered Bangladesh through the Tumbru frontier under Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban in the early hours of Saturday (March 30), sources at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said.

The BGB members disarmed and took them to BGB Battalion-11 headquarters in Naikhongchhari, according to the sources.

With the new arrival, the number of Myanmar troops has risen to 180 so far.

On 11 March, 177 BGP members fled to Bangladesh and took shelter amid clashes along the border in the neighbouring country.

In February, 330 Myanmar nationals, including BGP members, army personnel, and immigration officials, crossed the border and took refuge in Bangladesh.

On 15 February, they were handed over to the BGP amid tight security.
