Five killed as pick up-human hauler collide in Sylhet

At least five people were killed and five others injured after a pick up and human hauler collided head on in Darbasta area of Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.

The accident occurred at 11:45am on Sylhet-Tamabill Highway on Monday (March 18).

The deceased were—Mongali Patra, 50, daughter of Santosh Patra of Chiknagul l union of the upazila, Sabita Patra, wife of Nanda Patra, 6-month old Bijli, daughter of Suchita Patra, Susmita Patra, wife of Krishna Patra and Ritu Patra, son of Sukendu Patra.

According to locals a pickup van and a human hauler, locally known as Leguna, collided on the highway in front of the Sylhet Polli Bidyut office, leaving 10 persons critically injured.

Of the 10 injured five died after they were taken to hospital.

Officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station Tajul Islam said they visited the spot.

He said the victims were going to Mokampunji from Chiknagul to attend a family programme.
