A smuggler from Bangladesh was shot dead while another escaped with a bullet injury when border security forces opened fire in retaliation to an attack by a group from the neighbouring country on Sunday, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.

The incident occurred at Maguruli village in Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district. BSF sources said a group of Bangladesh nationals attempted to smuggle goods into the village, prompting the paramilitary force personnel to intervene.

The situation escalated when the smugglers started pelting the security forces with stones. In retaliation, the BSF personnel opened fire and killed a smuggler. BSF jawan Mohan Singh also sustained a head injury during the clash. The other smugglers managed to flee the spot with the injured one, the BSF sources said.

Farooq, arrested for smuggling leopard skin, violated the Wild Life Protection Act 1972. Advocate Salim demanded action against officials who allegedly beat him. The accused persons' case has become controversial.

Sri Lanka's Madushanka and Bangladesh's Sakib ruled out of ODI due to hamstring injuries in a tied series. Das dropped for Jaker. Sri Lanka won Twenty20 2-1, with upcoming Tests.

In northwestern Pakistan, militants targeted a military post with an explosives-laden vehicle, killing five security forces. The orchestrated assault resulted in a building collapse. This incident reflects the surge in attacks with possible Pakistani Taliban involvement.
