At least two people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a tourist bus and a pickup van at Matiranga in Khagrachari.

The deceased are Preeti Bala Guha, 45, wife of late Nani Gopal Guha and Anima Ghosh, 65, wife of late Gaurang Ghosh, residents of Bashundhara area of Khagrachhari district.

The accident took place around 9:30 am in Sapmara area of Matiranga on Wednesday (February 21).

According to locals, a pickup van carrying passengers from Khagrachari was going to Guimaras in the district. There was a head-on collision with a tourist bus coming from the opposite direction. Two women in the pickup van died on the spot, and left 15 people injured.

Doctor of Khagrachari Sadar Hospital Shahiduzzaman confirming the matter said that two died before being brought to the hospital, and condition of 5 people is critical.

Khagrachari Superintendent of Police Mukta Dhar said that the bus has been seized.
