UP chairman killed in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: A union parishad chairman was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between joint forces and BNP-Jamaat cadres in Shikri area under Sadar upazila of the district on Monday noon.

The ceased was identified as Anarul Islam, chairman of Agardari Union Parishad.

Police claimed that he was accused in several cases, including murder. District BNP general secretary Abdul Alim claimed that he was supporter of BNP.

Police super Chowdhury Monjurul Kabir said joint forces, consisting members of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BDR), went to Shikri area to conduct drive around 1:00am.

Sensing their presence, Jamaat-BNP cadres opened fire and hurled brick-chips at law enforcers. In retaliation, joint forces opened fire to attackers.

During the gunfight, Anarul caught line in the fire, leaving his dead on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Thana Inamul Haque confirmed the matter to banglanews.
