DHAKA:  A Dhaka court on Monday placed opposition BNP Vice-Chairman Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed on a two-day remand in a case filed with Paltan police station.

Magistrate Harun-or-Rashid of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order after hearing when police produced him before the court with a seven-day remand plea.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the BNP leader was detained in front of the National Press Club a press conference where he declared the ongoing anti-government movement by staging sit-in demonstrations on rail, road and waterways until the elections schedule is cancelled.

Later, he was shown arrested in a case for attacking petrol bomb at requisitioned bus of police in capital’s Bangla Motor.
