Signal-2 continues at seaports

DHAKA: The severe cyclonic storm ‘MADI’ over west central bay and adjoining southwest bay moved southwestwards, weakened into (with estimated central pressure 996 hpa) over the same area.

It was centred at 06 am Wednesday about 1160 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 1105 kms southwest of Cox’s bazar port and 1015 kms south-southwest of Mongla port (near lat 14.70 n and long 84.60 e), the met office said.

It is likely to move in a southwesterly direction.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the storm centre is about 70 kph rising to 92 kph in gusts/ squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over deep sea have been advised to remain close to North Bay and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
