Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five members of a new militant group following a gunfight in Bandarban's Thanchi upazila today (Feb 7) morning.

Besides, nine RAB members were also injured during the incident.

RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain was briefing the press at Thanchi this afternoon. 

He said they carried out the drive in Remacri bridge area on a tip-off that the militant group Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya members were passing through the area early in the morning.

Earlier, around 7:45am today, RAB and militants were exchanging fire. 

On January 23, RAB members arrested two leaders of new militant group "Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya" after a "gunfight" near Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar.
