At least five people were killed as a covered van lost control and ploughed into a hotel in Monirampur upazila of Jashore on Friday (Dec 2).

The accident took place in Bagaritola area of the Upazila this morning.

The deceased were identified as Zia, Rafiz Mir, Tahidul Islam, Habibur Rahman, 45, and his son Taushid Hossain, 7.

According to locals, a covered van traveling from Jessore to Satkhira reached Bagaritla area on the Jessore-Manirampur road around 8 am, when the driver lost control over his steering. 

Meanwhile, the vehicle crashed at least ten roadside shops, including hotels and tea shops, leaving five people dead on the spot, locals said.
 
Officer-in-Charge of Manirampur Police Station (OC) Sheikh Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter.
