A child died after drowning in a pond of Palash in Narsingdi on Saturday (Nov 5).

The deceased was identified as Maryam, 5, daughter of Kiran Mia. 

The incident took place at around 11:30 morning in a village of Ghorashal municipality area of the upazila.

According to relatives' statements, Maryam went to play with two neighboring children this morning and drowned in a pond near the house. Later, her body was found floating in the pond and taken to the Palash Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared her dead.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Palash police station Azad Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said that if a complaint is received, legal action will be taken in this regard.
